Ep.39 Aspects of Business Legalese - Know the legal side of your business
Thursday Jun 02, 2022
Thursday Jun 02, 2022
In today’s episode, I have a chat with Zama Mkosi, a Business and Media Lawyer who also owns her own businesses. Her passion lies in protecting and growing businesses and media brands. Over her 20 years as a legal practitioner, she has held positions that include COO, CEO, and Financier among other roles. She owns businesses within and outside the media and entertainment industry. She has varied experience which she acquired over the 20 years having had stages in her life where she left the comfort of a corporate job to pursue her own passions.
In our conversation today, I have an enlightening chat where we discuss a range of legal requirements for businesses, whether it’s an existing business, new business, or start-up. She advises that as business owners, whether you are a hairstylist, or freelancer, you need to have some basic understanding of your business -you need to have a working knowledge of your business and the legal issues that affect your business. Have terms and conditions of how you run your business, that include; when you expect people to pay you, when do you deliver, what happens to people when they default on the terms and conditions? Zama stresses the importance of writing things down, no matter how small it is and keep record of your agreements, clearly stating responsibilities of parties involved, these parties can also include suppliers, customers and staff.

Niven says you need to acknowledge and understand what office politics are in order to be able to navigate your way through your career. In this episode, Niven gives us the definition of office politics and what it looks like, demystifies the myths, and shares how people must develop a mindset shift around the subject. She shares why people usually associate office politics with something that is unethical, the bias around it, and gives insights into how you can use office politics to your advantage.

Ep.36 Embracing Change in Your Career and Life
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
In today's episode, I speak with Zandile Mahlangu, a Medical Doctor who worked in clinical settings before moving to the local government. Our conversation was centred around embracing change whether it’s in your career or your general life. Zandile was inspired to pursue Medicine because she grew up in a community with not many doctors and a family where her mother was always willing to help people. Becoming a doctor was one of the most fulfilling decisions she ever took. At the young age of 28, she went on to become a Hospital Manager. That job as a manager taught her how to navigate and manage different aspects of life and not be scared by life's challenges. She has learned to accept change, whether it is positive or unfavourable. She asserts that we are all capable beings who should always strive to take a leap of faith when an opportunity arises. Change comes along in different forms, how we deal with it is what makes the difference, it also brings about a lot of diversity and leads us to our growth, eventually being the best versions of ourselves.

Ep.35 Women Leadership - Networking and Personal Branding
Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
In this episode, I speak to Karika Yonrene from Nigeria about personal branding and networking. Karika has a background in engineering. She enjoyed fixing things around the house as a child, but her main motivation for going into engineering was to show other women that it was possible to pursue STEM courses in such a male-dominated industry. She moved across industries, from project engineering to oil and gas. Karika is about women empowerment. She is currently in the business of helping build personal branding and networking, because she believes that the essence of life is connection. In this episode Karika defines personal branding as the projection of who you are- it’s basically you amplifying your value in a strategic manner. Networking is everyday human interaction - the fact that you say hello to a person, you are already networking and some relationships have been developed from a simple hello. It is an exchange of value. For more of this insightful change conversation please check out our Podcast.

Ep. 33 Women Leadership- Mentorship and Sponsorship
Wednesday Dec 08, 2021
Wednesday Dec 08, 2021
Today on Change Conversations, I speak to a remarkable woman who wears different hats in the corporate and business world. Nollie Maoto is an Executive Head of Business Intelligence, Analytics, Planning and Monitoring at FNB South Africa within the Connect Me Business Unit; She is a Country Head at SAWIL; She is a Speaker, a Board Member and is passionate about Gender Equality, Transformation, and Inclusion. Nollie subscribes to the notion that one needs to be intentional and purposeful in all you do. The core of this conversation was about the discussion that there is a difference between mentorship and sponsorship; each play a role to help you move forward and succeed in your career. Key takeaways in this episode include that, it is important to have visibility in both your network and outside of your network; branding yourself is just as important as networking and you need to push yourself enough to get out of your comfort zone.

Ep.32 Generational Wealth - Using Money as a Tool
Saturday Nov 27, 2021
Saturday Nov 27, 2021
Disclaimer: Any information being shared here is not intended nor does it constitute, financial, tax, legal investments, or other advice. Before making any decision or taking any action regarding your finances, you should seek advice from a qualified financial advisor.
In today’s episode, I chat to Phuthanang traveler at heart, works as an accountant at a firm she co-founded about eleven years ago. Her interests include hiking, and she is passionate about money and wealth creation.
We continue with our Generational wealth series where we speak about how money is not only about leaving it to your children, but also about teaching them how to nurture that money and make it grow. Money shouldn't give us anxiety, we should allow it to flow – we should not hoard it or spend it all at once but understand that there is a balance and a continuous flow just like everything else in life.
We should see money as a tool to help us express ourselves creatively and allow the world to experience us.

Ep.31 A Career in Academia
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
In today’s episode I speak to Dr. Tshidi who works fulltime at the GIBS Business School Faculty. She is a Lecturer, a Researcher, Entrepreneurship Consultant who assists small businesses answer questions in relation to market access and business and an Education Specialist. Our discussion today speaks about having a career in academia. Dr Tshidi talks about what academia is and how she became an academic and her journey towards reaching that goal. She walks us through all the different levels and requirements one needs to complete to get to the PhD level and some of the obstacles you may be faced with. We touch on how women are a minority within this industry and also discuss the inequality women are still faced with, despite doing the same amount of work as their male counterparts. Some other key points we can take away from this change conversation include that one must: Choose a subject that you are passionate about or familiar with; get mentors to help you and guide you; collaborate and don't always try to do everything alone and stand firm in who you are.
